Downtown's quiet this week, and most of what's worth driving to is a few exits either direction on I-80. The fairgrounds calendar starts filling up after that: October arrives with sheep, pinball and two candidate forums.

Tuesday, 3:30 p.m. — Teen Career Talk with the California Conservation Corps at the Dixon Library, 230 North 1st Street. Post-high-school job and training options; registration is recommended but not required.
Wednesday, 5 p.m. — Dixon Farmers Market at Pardi Plaza, First and West A. Every Wednesday through October 28.
Thursday through Monday, time TBA — Zoppé Italian Family Circus at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo. A one-ring circus, five days only.
Saturday, 12 p.m. — Jelly Belly Candy Palooza at the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield, free to get in. Free factory tour and train rides; some attractions charge.
Saturday, 5:30 p.m. — Jeans and Jewels: A Country Dinner at the Vacaville Museum, $65. Buffet, raffle and a silent auction in the courtyard.
Saturday, 7:30 p.m. — Movies in the Park at Hall Park. Every Saturday through October 3, so two left.
Sunday, 6 p.m. — Taste of Davis and Yolo at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall, $20 in advance. Food, wine and beer from Yolo County makers. Tickets are limited; 21 and over to drink.

From the Council
The city council's September 15 agenda had the county transportation agency presenting on the I-80/I-680/SR-12 interchange work. Also listed: $39,460 as Dixon's share of the Solano Express intercity buses this year, an agreement to let the transportation agency use a city parking lot for a new bus route pilot, and $43,034.11 for one police motorcycle bought without competitive bidding. These were scheduled votes, not results. The packet is the record.
The school board met September 10 with a public hearing set on renewing the district's Montessori charter school, plus a resolution confirming students have enough textbooks.
Next up: the Parks and Recreation Commission meets Tuesday at City Hall, 600 East A Street, with an update on the city's five-year list of construction projects. The agenda includes time for public comment on items not listed. Start time isn't confirmed in what we have; check the packet.

The Pip Wine Bar & Shop sits at 116 N. 1st St., and the useful thing about it is not any single night. It's the rhythm. Pizza Night lands on a Saturday afternoon roughly every five weeks. Cigar Night lands on a Thursday evening at about the same interval. Rarer ones drop in between.
What's on their calendar now: a Pip Trip pouring Dwelley Family Wines next Sunday, September 27, 2 to 4 p.m. Then Pizza Night Saturday, October 10, 4 to 8 p.m. Cigar Night Thursday, October 15, 5 to 8:30 p.m. A bring-your-own-vinyl night Friday, October 16, 6 to 9 p.m. Oyster Night Friday, November 6, 5 to 8 p.m.
